A Holiday look with SimplyBe

Hello Wonderful Friends, Happy New Year!
I hope everyone is starting the year off great so far. So today's post has to do with the virtual holiday party that I did a few weeks back, if you don't remember I teamed up with two great bloggers Liz and Hailey and we each through a virtual holiday party with decorations and recipes. At the time I had not received my item from SimplyBe and I got the item right before Christmas on Christmas eve which was great. But I hadn't gotten to post about it because I had to get it altered but more about that later. :)
So a little about SimplyBe if you have never heard of them before, they are a UK based company that started in 1999. The company was created to celebrate curves and to give women fashionable clothes in their size. They provide clothing from sizes 8 to 32 and have been providing stylish clothes to women in the UK and have started serving women in the US.
So like I said before I had to get the dress altered a bit. Since I wasn't sure which item SimplyBe was going to send me I went with a size 16 because I decided to go bigger instead of the item being too small. But I think if I had known they were giving me this dress I would have gotten a 14 because it's stretchy material. But yeah I had to ask my mom to take it in because I felt like I was swimming in the dress, as you can see in the photo in the left it just hangs on my body. I wasn't going to shorten the dress but when my mom saw me in the dress she convinced me it would look better if it was shorter and I'm happy she did. What do you guys think?
So when I was taking pictures today my dog would not leave my side, she has been extra clingy so you might see her in a few picture here and there! So look out for Mocha! :)
(Dress: SimplyBe) (Jacket: Forever 21+) (Shoes: Forever 21) (Clutch:Moms)

So to style the dress I paired it with a faux leather Jacket, black clutch and black heels to keep the outfit simple.
I have to say I love the dress, if you follow my blog you know I love black and white so that is one reason I chose this dress. The dress is a very stretchy material which is comfortable to wear and I really love the lace panels on the sides, they are just a great accent to the dress. I also really adore the drop waist of the dress, I've been wanting to try the trend and I really love it. Oh and can I say the dress has sleeves, it's so rare to have dresses with sleeves, the sleeves just make me feel extra comfortable in the dress. I'm really happy with the dress they sent me. If you want to check out the dress you can (here), the dress is currently on sale, they also have tons of dresses on sale right now.
So yeah this was the first time I ever reached out to a company to ask to gift me an item and I just want to thank Liz from With Wonder and Whimsy so much for helping me through the process. I was so scared, nervous and intimidated about reaching out to a company especially SimplyBe because they have been working with such big bloggers recently but it was a big step for me and I'm so thankful that Liz was so helpful. I know I emailed her a lot with questions on what I should do and she was so awesome by helping me.
Did you spot my little Mocha in my pictures? But yeah thank you for reading.

XOXO ~ Nina ~

  2. You look amazing!!!! Congrats on taking that step in e-mailing companies. I have had limited success with that approach, but I figure it's always worth the chance of building relationships with new brands.

I really like the dress both before and after alterations. Maybe it's the pic, but it doesn't really seem to hang on you in the first pic - just seems very sophisticated and pretty. The after look is a little more form-fitting, and shorter hemline gives it a more youthful feel. Great choice!! :-)

    1. Thanks Cassie, your right with contacting companies, I'm going to try reaching out to some this year. But yeah you can't really see in the picture, but it the feel of it was heavy because it was so loose.

  3. I'm so happy to finally see you in your Simply Be dress! You look bangin! I think the alterations make it a bit sexier and flirtier. This is a dress you can wear so many places! It's classy and sophisticated but also super hot! I think your choice of simple black accessories was perfect. I just can't get over the ruffle along the bottom. I love it!

I'm so glad you had success reaching out to a company. I know it can be scary, but it's a great way to test out an unfamiliar brand. And it's a great way for companies to build loyalty with bloggers who will shop with them again and again, not to mention promote them on their blogs!

Thanks so much for the shout out. I didn't mind talking you through the process at all. The collaborative post with you and Hailey was a great way to keep in touch with both of you!

    1. Thanks again Liz for all the help, I know without your help I would have never reached out to any company. But yeah I'm happy with the dress too and the ruffle on the bottom is one of the reasons I wanted the dress. :)

  4. Love love love! Oh Nina this dress is beautiful on you. Props to you for posting before and after alterations. I did that on my Christmas dress but did not show the before pics. I love seeing Mocha, so adorable and I am a sucker for doggies. They have a soft spot in my heart. Wow, this really encourages me about doing the gifting post. I have tried to do research on the process of how to do this and ultimately feel like I am way to small a blog to appeal to companies. Maybe I can talk to you sometime about that?!! And I totally want your mom to be my tailor! Hehe!

    1. Thanks Janeane, yeah I have soft spot for doggies too. But yeah I thought my blog was too small to reach out to the company SimplyBe because they were working with really big bloggers. But you really never know unless you try, but I'm not even too sure about contacting companies but I'm going to try to reach out to some new ones to get to know them more, we could totally try it together! :)

  5. You look gorgeous. It's definitely 100% better since your mom altered. I think the shorter hemline is way more flattering.
