Style Collab: Winter Trends...Shades of Gray

Hello Friends!!!
I know it has been a long time since my last post, I've been very busy and daylight savings really messed up my schedule. But I have a few post lined up for you all so I hope you stick with me! But yeah today I'm back with another collaboration with some of my blogger friends and we are bringing you some fall trends. The trend I chose is shades of gray, it was a big trend in New York Fashion Week with designers like Victoria Beckham, Lacoste, Jason Wu, and Tibi all showing all gray outfits.
So all gray outfits have been popular not only on the runway but in social media with celebrities like Selena Gomez, Zendaya and Gigi Hadid all rocking the trend. (Check them out here) Their is even a name for wearing all gray, a "groutfit" which is basically combining gray and outfit together, the word used to mean an all gray sweat suit for someone lazy to get ready. But I think the fashion industry has showed us that an all gray outfit can be something fabulous!
So for my outfit for today I came up with a casual outfit and the way I tackled the all gray outfit was that I decided to try different shades of gray and no I'm not talking about the book. I'm not sure if the pictures show the different shades but each piece I'm wearing is a different shade of gray.
When pulling off a monochromatic look their are a few ways you can do it, one is what I mentioned above by mixing different tones of the color. Another way is mix textures, this is another way I like wearing monochrome looks. I tried mixing a few textures in this outfit with my faux suede boots, my wool skirt and my jacket. Another way is wearing layers of similar tones for example my top and my jacket are similar shades of gray.
Let me tell you a little story about this Jacket, my grandfather lived with me for as long as I could remember and when I turned 18 he moved back to the Philippines to help take care of my other cousins. When he passed I remember wanting something of his and it was his gray members only jacket because he always picked me up from kinder through middle school and he would always wear his members only jacket all the time. So I looked through all the clothes he left behind and I couldn't find it. So when my mom went home to the Philippines I asked her to look for it and she couldn't find it. When my mom got back we went to the swap meet and their was a new vendor that we have never seen before and she was selling members only jackets and it so happened she had one gray one that looked just like my grandfathers so I got it right then and there. I feel like the jacket was meant for me and whenever I wear it I am reminded of my grandfather.

  1. Your story about this jacket is so special! Even if it's not your grandfather's jacket, it's still special because it reminds you of him. And who knows, maybe it is?! I love those happy coincidences. It makes me wonder if they're really coincidences at all.

I also appreciate being schooled on the meaning of "groutfit." That's definitely a new word in my vocabulary! lol I think this look is school girl meets sporty, and the combination of pieces is surprising, interesting, and totally works. I think the juxtaposition of the jacket and skirt is especially interesting, and I also like the proportion play of the baggier jacket and snug skirt. And those boots are so sassy!

    1. Thanks Liz, yes it's still good that it reminds me of him. Yes I just learned about the groutfit myself when I was online and saw a lot of articles on popsuagar and buzzfeed about it.

  2. I think this is such a cute outfit! I love the casual but pulled-together vibe, the laid-back sexiness. I also love the mix of items I don't think I would have thought to put together, but they totally work together so beautifully. The teal skirt is so tonally perfect with the other shades of gray as well. That really appeals to me. And, like I mentioned before, I love this shade of lipstick on you!

Thank you for sharing the story about your grandfather what the jacket means to you. I love getting insight into who you are.
