Break the Rules

Hello Everyone! So I was on pinterest (I love pinterest) and I saw something from stylishcurves.com about breaking the rules and wearing crop tops. I totally agree with this. I actually made this post about how I would wear a bandeau because I saw one on Forever 21+ website but they recently sold out and it is no longer on the website. But since I saw this on pinterest I decided to post it anyways. I really believe that women of all sizes can wear anything they want as long as they have confidence in what they are wearing and they feel great in it. Who cares what other people say or think. But of coarse I know there are women who might not feel comfortable in a crop top and I think that's fine, I'm just saying if you want to wear one and your comfortable then do it.

I know personally, I've never been comfortable in wearing a bikini or a cropped top. But I feel like it's because I always felt that it was frowned upon just like wearing horizontal stripes, shorts and all the other things your not suppose to wear because your plus-sized. But I've come to realize that you can wear those things as long as feel comfortable in it and you love yourself not to care what others think. I don't think I'm comfortable enough to wear a bikini or a two piece yet but that's why I really want to try this trend, I think it's a step for me to be like "hey I'm beautiful and I love my body and I don't care what society says!"

How I would wear a Bandeau

How I would wear a Bandeau by curvy-mod featuring h&m jackets

The bandeau that is in the picture is from Forever 21+ and I was so happy they made one for plus-size women because I've seen bandeau's in a lot of stores but never one that fit me. So when I saw it on the F21+ website I was excited because I think you can wear them in numerous ways. I really hope they make more and in different styles. So these are just a few ways I would wear a bandeau which is technically a short tube top or tube bikini top. But these different ways can also go great with a crop top as well.

1. I think it would look great under a blazer, ala Nadia Aboulhosn. I can picture her wearing it this way or I'm pretty sure she has already worn something similar to this. This is just a classier way to wear a bandeau or crop top and you can adjust how much you want to be seen by buttoning up your blazer or leaving it open.

2. For a more sporty look or toned down look, you can pair it with a one of those tank tops that are cut widely on the sides. I think this would look great going to the beach or a nice day out. I personally have a few tank tops like this and I usually just wear it with my bra showing, but i think a bandeau is a much nicer way to wear it. :)

3. Lastly, I think this is the easiest way to wear a bandeau or a crop top is with something that is high waisted, a skirt or some jeans would really look great. I like this way a lot and this is the way I've seen a lot of plus-size women wear cropped tops and look awesome.

I hoped I helped some of you in maybe trying this trend out. I know if I find a cute crop top or i'm able to find this bandeau in a forever 21+ near me I will try it out and show you all how I wear it.

LA day

Hey everyone! So I had a little trip to LA with some of my friends recently, it was nice to go to LA because I haven't been there in awhile. I went with a friend that had to do something there, so we made it a little LA day with friends.

Our first stop was the Grove, This is where all my pictures where taken because it was such a nice day. Thank you to my friends that took my pictures, I'm really thankful that they are so supportive of me doing this blog. On another note this picture to the right was taken of me next to the trolley that goes around the Grove. It was stopped to pick up some passengers and my friends that it would be nice for me to take pictures in front of it. I was hesitant but they convinced me to do it and we had to do it fast because they were almost done loading all the passengers. Here is one of the pictures we took and although I liked the others I think this was the best one that was taken. I especially like how you can see my necklace, I just got it recently. It was from the swap-meet and I know not a lot of people don't think of shopping at swap-meets but I think they are great places to find unique and cheap things. I think of them as smaller versions of flea markets.

{tank & sweater: Old Navy} {skirt: made it} {shoes: LoveD} {necklace:swapmeet} {tights:target}

It was a really nice day in LA, the sun was shining but it was a little bit chilly because the wind was blowing. I'm glad I wore some tights, although I'm not sure about the color of tights I chose they helped keep me warm.

Here's a picture of me and my friends, they are the ones that helped me take the pictures. Thanks for your help girls! :) Right behind us they had picture taking with the Easter bunny and we really wanted to take some but the line was so long that we decided not to.

We ended our LA day trying a place called MILK there known for there macron ice cream sandwiches. But by the time we got there they were almost all out of the sandwiches so my friends opted for ice cream but since I really wanted to try what they are known for I got the coffee toffee ice cream sandwich and let me tell you it was pretty yummy! :)

Easter

Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and a great Easter with their families. I had a nice day with my family. This is what I wore for Easter, sorry that I am squinting in my pictures these were taken early in the mourning before church and where I took the pictures is directly in front of the sun!

So this was the first time I tried sock curls for my hair, I see so many tutorials online and they seemed easy, so i gave it a try. I think they came out pretty well, I was really happy with them.

{Dress, necklace, watch: Target} {Sweater: Old Navy} {Shoes: Forever 21}

The dress I'm wearing is from Target and it's a Hello Kitty dress and if you know me you know I really love Hello Kitty. When I first saw this line at target I really loved it but at all the targets I went to they only ran up to a large size. Then I finally found this dress at one target and it was in XL and it looked really small for me but I decided to try it on anyways and I was so happy it fit. Except for the belt that came with the dress, I don't know why they make belts for clothes that wont fit the person wearing the clothes. But I actually was able to make the belt work because there are cutouts of Hello Kitty's on the belt and I was able to use that as the notch on the belt, and just like Tim Gunn says "Make it work!" I think it's great when something you didn't think would fit turns out to fit you, that just proves that you can't hold yourself back because of size.

Emerald

Hey everyone and Thank You to all the new followers! :) So I was looking online to see if there was any emerald clothing out there for plus-size women, since it's the color of the year. But I noticed that the options were very limited, didn't see much clothing that was emerald. So I thought of ways that we could incorporate it into our wardrobe and they are listed below.

Emerald

1. Accessories - I think this is the easiest way to add emerald into your current wardrobe. For example adding a emerald clutch or some emerald shoes to an outfit can be a great pop of color to an all black outfit. Or If your wearing an every day outfit of jeans and plain t-shit why not add an emerald scarf or some jewelry to really make the outfit extra special.

2. Makeup - Now this is for the more adventurous people out there that like to change up there makeup. There are plenty of brands out there that have come out with emerald color shadows they look great as a nice smokey eye. But if your more of a neutral shadows kinda girl like me, there are also eyeliners in emerald colors that you can add to make your neutral eye pop. Another thing that I like to do is add a little bit of the colored eye shadow to the bottom of my lower lash line, so it's a little pop of color but not too crazy.

3. Nail polish - One of the easiest ways to incorporate emerald into your wardrobe is through your nails. I looked online to see the different brands that had an emerald color and there are so many. Nail brands like essie, OPI, China glaze, Revlon and even forever 21 has an emerald color that you can choose from.

So if your looking for a way to incorporate the color of the year, Emerald in your wardrobe these are a few things you can try.

Fashion Star...

Hey friends! So I was catching up on the shows that I DVR and one of them is Fashion star, I liked the show last season and it just started up again and so far I'm enjoying this season. One of the designers this season is a plus sized women and her name is Johana Hernadez. Let me tell you this girl has an awesome style, from the few episodes that they've had so far she has worn some great outfits.

Here is a picture of Johana, this is from the NBC website. I looked her up and she has a pretty inspiring story and she seems to be pretty successful right now too. She was born in Compton California and her parents worked in sweat shops for high end brands which started her passion for fashion. She has worked for several different brands one being Seven7 jeans which she was the head designer. She has her own collection called GLAUDI which was sold in multiple locations which included Macy's, Lane Bryant, Target and  few others. I defiantly think she's a designer to look out for. You can look her for yourself, here's a link to her clothing website http://www.glaudicollection.com/ .

Another thing I wanted to talk about was the last episode which was called "Something for Everyone," I really enjoyed the concept of this episode because it was about making clothes that worked for all body sizes. What happened on the show was they had two models one smaller model and one that was bigger model and they had both models wear the same outfit. This was to show that people of all sizes would be able to wear outfit. I love the concept of the episode because I totally believe that people of all sizes should be able to wear the same thing. But what got me kind of upset was one of the buyers stated that the looks would look great on people from  sizes 0 to 12 and for me I'm not part of that bracket. I just thought that was a little upsetting because they are talking about clothes to fit different sizes yet I am not part of the bracket that they are selling towards. :(

Above are pictures of the two outfits that I liked the best from the episode. The first is a peplum dress designed by Hunter Bell, and the second is a tunic designed by Cassandra Hobbins. Both looks can be found at express, here is the link http://www.express.com/fashionstar/index.jsp . But unfortunately I looked and for the tunics they only have small sizes left and for the peplum they only go up to size 12. I just thought I would share the ups and down's about this certain episode because I was very excited about it and then I was let down after I found out it wasn't really for plus-sized women. But hey you have to look at the positive at least they are acknowledging that their are women of different sizes and that's a step up.

Tribal Print

"I intend to accept my body today, Love my body tomorrow
and appreciate my body always! (no matter what size)"

Hey Friends! So today was a warm day here in California. So i decided to wear a nice flowy dress and to be honest this isn't my complete outfit. I actually wore the jean jacket i wore in my last outfit post but i decided since i wore that in the last post i would take a picture without it on. Which brings me to the quote above, I have always been uncomfortable with showing my arms. But I have been inspired by so many body acceptance blogs and things I've read on the web that i decided I shouldn't be ashamed of my body and just let my arms show. So this summer i'm going to start showing off my arms and not wear long sleeve jackets when it's 100 degrees outside. But of coarse i gotta start off slowly and this is my first step! :)

So my dress has a little story and it goes like this, I used to see nice printed hi-low dresses at forever 21 but they never had them in the plus sized line and I don't fit in the regular forever 21 line. So I looked at other places and I could only find plain hi-low dresses in single colors and no prints. So I decided to make my own and this is the result, a tribal print hi-low dress. Its kinda big so that's why I put a belt, and i got the belt from a friend. Well that's my outfit of the day! I hope you're all having a wonderful day! ~ Nina
