Getting Ready for the Holiday's: 70's & Victorian inspired Holiday looks

Hello Friends!
So I'm back with another Collaboration with some of my blogger friends and it's not the last too, so look forward to another collaboration with them in the near future. But yes today is a little different because all of us are doing something a little different but it all has to do with the theme of Vintage Holiday. Janeane of Designing from my Closet is showing you how to decorate for the Holiday's with vintage inspiration. Liz of With Wonder and Whimsy is sharing some fun vintage recipes that we can serve during the Holiday's. Hailey of Discourse of a Divine Diva is showing us some vintage make up and hair. As for me I'm showing you some vintage inspired looks that you can wear for the Holiday's!
So I decided to go with two decades that are currently in fashion and were shown on the runways for fall and winter. I went with the 70's and Victorian because they are big trends this season and thought it would be easy for anyone to recreate the looks.

When wearing vintage styles sometimes it can look like a costume and you wouldn't want that. One thing I suggest is to mix modern elements with the vintage styles, for example when wearing a vintage dress you might want to style it with more modern makeup and hair or vice versa.

The 70's
During fall/winter fashion week their were several designers that had 70's inspired collections and they included: Rebecca Minkoff, BCBG MaxAzria, Burberry and Anna Sui. These looks included styles like fringe, fur, printed maxi's, and suede.

I decided to come up with two different 70's inspired looks that you could wear for the the Holiday's. The first look is actually my favorite and I would wear it for a nice dinner out with friends for a gift exchange. The second look is a little more casual and I would wear it to something like a lunch Friendsgiving or even Thanksgiving. The last look is actually very similar to what I wore last year for Christmas with my friends.

Above are a few other 70's inspired garments that you could dress up for the Holiday's. I really love the fringed dress and I think it would be such a fun look for a Christmas outfit.

Victorian
A few designers went back centuries to get inspired by victorian style these designers include Alexander McQueen, Alberta Ferretti, Valentino, Gucci and Givenchy. When you look at this style you look at high necks, lace, ruffles and luxe fabric like velvet.

Above are the two looks I came up with inspired by Victorian style. Both looks are ones I would wear for the Holiday's. But my favorite would be the second look, I love the high neck with the little tie at the top and with the skirt and the beautiful clutch.

Above are a few other Victorian style pieces that would go great with any Holiday party. My favorite is the first look, the red lace dress, its so beautiful and I love the color.

So another way you can incorporate vintage into your Holiday outfit is Accessorize! I think this is one of the best way to bring a vintage vibe to any outfit. Below are few different accessory types that you could use add to any outfit.

So I was so inspired by the Victorian look I decided to come up with my own take on the style.
The piece that inspired me was this cream colored top, when I was spring cleaning this year I came across this top and I knew Victorian was a trend for fall so I decided to keep it. I actually don't remember ever wearing this top it was on the bottom of my drawer and I actually don't remember buying it, so it was a nice surprise. It had a high neck but not too high, I'm not comfortable with high necks and it has lace and ruffles. I decided to pair it with modern elements like a faux leather jacket and circle skirt. This is definitely something I would wear to a Holiday party with family or with friends.

Is their and Era or decade that is your favorite? Would you dress in that Decade or Era for the Holiday's?
Thanks for reading, don't forget to check out the other ladies.

  1. Yes! I love how you took these two eras and brought them to life with modern fashion. My two fav pieces are the 70s aubrogine jumper and the Victorian emerald skirt. You came up with some fabulous pairings. And your Victorian inspired outfit looks so good on you. The contrast between the high neck lace blouse against your black jacket is divine.
